Annual Wellness Exams

Annual wellness exams are the perfect time for patients to bring up any potential issues they may be having or concerns they may have about their health. Dr. Eko is attentive to each patient’s concerns and will follow-up on any potential symptoms. Patients need not feel rushed in their time with the doctor as there is plenty of time allotted to address any potential concerns.

Annual wellness exams include identifying any potential risk factors for disease, discussing healthy tips for a balanced lifestyle, and maintaining an appropriate schedule of immunizations and boosters.

Men, women, and children all of have different types of services offered to them when it comes to preventative measures. For adults, some areas checked during a regular wellness exam include a variety of screenings including blood pressure, cholesterol, obesity, syphilis, Type 2 diabetes, diabetes, and colorectal cancer for patients over age 50. However, bedside manner is one of Dr. Eko’s main strengths. There is a genuine concern for the patient which helps increase the patient’s level of comfort in discussing difficult topics. This bedside manner comes in particularly helpful in areas such as counseling on risk factors. Dr. Eko provides a safe area to discuss concerns and struggles with diet, weight loss, and tobacco cessation.

Dr. Eko can help patients problem solve areas that need additional focus or improvement. This might include medication, behavior modification, or other measures as the physician sees fit.

Diet and Weight Loss

Given the importance of exercise, particularly when it comes to inducing weight loss, Dr. Eko works with patients on setting realistic goals and developing an overall weight loss plan, which includes a structure plan for exercise. Dr. Eko puts an emphasis on the importance of regular physical activity, with a focus on muscle-strengthening, endurance, flexibility and balance, all of which contribute to a healthy lifestyle and an even healthier aging process.

Dr. Eko is prepared to basically write out an exercise prescription for any patient needing one. That prescription is specific to the needs of the individual patient and includes the type of exercise needed as well as the exercise’s level of intensity, frequency and time. In addition, Dr. Eko will periodically meet with patient’s engaged in a weight loss and exercise plan to re-evaluate progress toward the goals set.

Dr. Eko also takes an interest in the community as a whole and as part of any exercise prescription, is happy to refer interested patients to any and all available community resources such as fitness classes and walking groups in .

Exercise isn’t the only way to control weight. It works in tandem with a good, overall balanced diet. Dr. Eko understands the dietary needs of all ages. For example, while energy needs decrease as patient’s age, vitamins and minerals become even more important. While a younger person would be encouraged to eat foods that would provide a good amount of energy, older patients are encourages to choose foods and supplements that are high in vitamin D, calcium, and vitamins B12 and B6.

Tobacco Cessation

Tobacco use remains the most common cause of preventable disease in the United States. As such, counseling on tobacco cessation is a focus of all wellness visits, when appropriate. Patients who are baby boomers were less likely to receive proper warnings related to tobacco and have continued use once addicted.
